hfh bag review: Prada Soft Rings in natural

29 Sep

Following on from my post back at the beginning of September launching our new hfh handbag review here is our verdict on the lovely Prada Soft Rings in neutral!

From its very first outing (which was to the bank – very boring and mundane!) Prada Soft Rings handbagthis bag was certainly noticed.  Maybe it was the colour (a beige/pink that seemed to go with everything), the gold coloured rivets or the fact that it was Prada and you could spot its quality at ten paces.  The cashier said “what a gorgeous bag” (and I got a new member signed up on the spot) and the lady behind me in the queue even stroked it!

The length of the straps makes this bag easy to carry over the shoulder with the body sitting perfectly at the elbow.  This was a great help to me on bank day as I was carrying around £40 of change to pay into my daughter’s bank account.  Along with my purse, phone, makeup bag and umbrella the bag wasn’t too heavy and the straps didn’t cut into my shoulder.

Next up was a business show.  A few changes to bag contents (out goes the umbrella, in comes a A4 notepad, pen, business cards, bottle of water and tic tacs) and it was ready to go.  The body of this bag, whilst looking very structured is actually quite soft and saves it looking like an over the shoulder briefcase and too professional.  However it does keep its shape very well (it IS Prada!) and even filled to the brim the rectangular shape stays true and doesn’t sag or pull anywhere.

The gold zip across the entire top length makes it easy to totally secure all your belongings but more importantly to find them!  Open it a little if you’re after your phone stored in the integral inside pocket, all the way if you’re rooting around for the small plastic cow your 2 year old daughter is demanding.

The Prada Soft Rings also accompanied me on a weekend in Cornwall with the family (where sea spray and grubby floors of an amusement arcade didn’t faze it one bit) and several supermarket shopping trips (where once I only needed a few things and popped them straight in without the need for a carrier).

In summary this bag suited me perfectly.  Looking good in both a professional or personal day, enough room to store everything I need to keep at hand and a great colour that went with any outfit I am hard pushed to find anything negative about it.  Well, maybe there’s all the admiring glances I thought were for me!

So I sadly put it back into stock for one of you lucky ladies to hire.  What shall I move onto now?  The small Chloe Silverado in black seems to be calling me.

To celebrate our first bag review you can hire the Prada Soft Rings for only £55 including next day delivery and return, saving £20!  Visit  Designer Handbag Hire from handbagsfromheaven and enter code hfhbrsep10 – but be quick, its first come first served!

Male celebs with pink handbags!

24 Sep

Actors Liam Neeson and Martin Clunes along with director (and Insurance Ad Specialist!) Michael Winner and Les Ferdinand have joined forces with Cancer Research UK to model pink handbags for the charities Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.

The month normally focusses on all things female, however the men have taken part to add a touch of masculinity to show that both men and women can support Cancer Research UK’s campaign ‘Join the fight for women’s survival’.

The bags being modelled form a range of pink products available to purchase from the Cancer Research UK shop with all profits going towards breast cancer research.

We think they look fab!

London Fashion Week report: Mulberry S/S 11 Show

21 Sep

Emma Hill, Mulberry’s Creative Director said she was inspired by the films the Grey Gardens and the Secret Garden for the latest Ready-To-Wear show held in Claridges on Sunday.

This was apparent as soon as you approached the ballroom as there were bushes guarding the entrance with beautiful flowers peeking out.  Moving through intricately detailed illustrated brick wall you found yourself in Mulberry’s very own Secret Garden with huge coral flowers strewn around the catwalk with the illustrated wall being used as a backdrop with panels of even more coral flowers.

The fashion was a definite nod to Seventies style – ladylike and sophisticated but with a fun and playful edge.  High waisted skirts, pussy bow blouses and Bianca Jagger style jumpsuits featured heavily.

Beckham to denounce her Birkins??

15 Sep

For as long as most of us can remember (well, at least since she distanced herself from Pop music), Victoria Beckham has gained more column inches about her Hermes Birkin collection than her designing skills or indeed her gorgeous husband.

According to a Daily Mail article published in late 2009 our Vic has a collection of over 100 Birkins estimated at over £1.5 million pounds

The bag was designed in 1984 by French fashion house Hermès and named after the actress Jane Birkin.  It was allegedly created after the company’s CEO Jean Louis Dumas sat next to the actress on a Paris to London flight. However it is now seen as a fashion classic and coveted around the globe – the basic model starts at “just” £4,200.

Not one to settle for “basic”, Victoria it seems is forever photographed with her expanding collection of luxurious Birkins with the pink ostrich skin probably being the most famous but nowhere near the most expensive!  Her glossy black crocodile comes in at a close second but her ultimate is the ‘Silver Himalayan’ style, which, at £80,000, comes complete with three-carat diamond.

However at her recent show at New York Fashion Week where she showed her Spring 2011 collection (which got rave reviews btw!) she was overheard saying of her first handbag collection “A Beckham can replace your Birkin”.

Seen carrying her “Victoria” design recently – we’re sure she’s made the move!

Katy loves Chloe

8 Sep

Not content with taming one of the wildest men born on these shores in quite a while Katy Perry is also loving her Chloe Paddington – named after the UK’s favourite bear (just kidding!).

Launched in 2003 it became the first IT bag for Chloe and still sells out every season.  Katy has gone for the metallic gold leather which certainly brightens up a dull winter outfit.  Her other accessory?  Her fiance of course!

If you want to channel Katy’s style but finding £700+ to purchase one of these will be a little difficult then why not hire our Chloe Paddington in Chocolate or Chloe Paddington Bauletto in Grey/Green for only £35?  Much easier than finding a louche man to tame!

New monthly feature: hfh handbag review

3 Sep

Hi all!

We’re delighted to let you know that today we are launching a brand new feature – the hfh handbag review!

Many of you have been asking us for more personal bag specific information so each month we will be using one of our gorgeous designer handbag hires on a daily basis so we can give you the lowdown on how it performs in a “real life” situation!

So to hopefully continue the trend for the indian summer we’ve been having Prada Soft Rings handbagover the last couple of days, September’s trial will be our sophisticated Prada Soft Rings in Natural.  A subtle natural colour and gold metal ring detailing (metal hardware is a huge trend for A/W 10) it will perfectly accessorize our summer outfits while we can still wear them!

Be back at the end of the month with an update!
